Diversity is everywhere. It is in nature, in our cultures, in art, music, languages. Diversity is present in our communities and the perspective of others. Diversity of thought, experiences, and ideas create thriving organizations, teams and enrich our day-to-day lives.

When working with entrepreneurs and leaders, being able to access fresh thinking, new ideas and expand their thinking is key to innovation, growth, and responding to the many demands of business. It is also key to building strong, trustworthy bonds with colleagues and clients. Diversity of thought and ideas create outcomes and solutions that often go beyond what one mind or person can do on their own.

There are endless ways in which our work and lives are enhanced by diversity. Our world opens up in new and vibrant ways via diversity. It’s one of the main reasons we love to travel, try new foods, or explore new places. Something comes alive in us when we expand our minds.

Yet often, we close ourselves off to new ideas, ways of thinking, or other people’s opinions. We get positional about the way we see the world and miss opportunities to see fresh. We get tied to our point of view and consciously or unconsciously dismiss anything that does not match our experience.

Staying open, listening, and taking in the lived experience and perspectives of others, working collaboratively, and building together requires our attention and intention.

Benefiting from the collective wisdom, creativity, and life experiences of others requires we get present, go beyond the way we see it, and get curious about how others see things. It does not require our agreement; it requires our presence and willingness to slow down, listen, inquire and explore.

Fresh ideas, new solutions, friendship, respect, community, connection, and collaboration are taken to powerful levels when we value diversity. When we create environments that welcome and value diverse perspectives, everyone thrives.
