The Antidote to Feeling Stuck | Blog

Freedom To Move Forward – Regardless

I'm writing to you today from Asheville, NC. I moved here at the start of the year and am loving getting to know this part of the world.

At the beginning of 2023, I had an opportunity to move to Edinburgh, Scotland, and I jumped on it. It was unexpected, and what I thought would be a few month's stay turned into spending the rest of the year there.

Scotland was a gift in so many ways. Between getting into “wild swimming,” hiking and exploring the highlands, connecting with amazing people, enriching friendships, and working with new clients, my time was expansive and fulfilling.

It was also a time for deep reflection—a time to go inward, get curious and open, and listen to the inner stirring that more change was in the air, both internally and externally. I was evolving.

In complete transparency, that excited me and, at times, had me struggling with uncertainty and self-doubt.

My mind would rush ahead and try to figure out what exactly all this meant for me and my business. I would have inspiring thoughts about possibilities and get excited, but just as often, I would feel confused and unsure about what I was meant to do.

I would feel stuck.

When no answers or clarity came, I'd think harder or wait earnestly for the exact answer—hoping for the bolt of lightning that would come via insight and would answer everything for me. It would be wrapped up in clarity and exactness, and then I would not waver.

Then I would remember, “Oh yeah,” I don't have to know, and most of the time, it doesn't really work that way anyway. And here's the kicker – it's not the point.

My mind was searching for “the thing.” If I found “the thing,” I could move forward with confidence. Yet underneath it all, I could hear a deeper call to let go of figuring it out and trying to get it right.

That deeper stirring inside was trying to tell me something.

There is a greater opportunity here – freedom.

Freedom to be where you are. Freedom to express without all the answers.

Freedom to let go of rules or all the good ideas we have about what it means to be a good coach, businesswoman, leader, woman, teacher, etc.

Freedom to follow your unique path and where your curiosity leads you. Freedom to try, to move forward, to do it your way.

Freedom to grow, evolve, learn along the way and be seen doing it.

What if the point is not finding “the thing” and then hitting the go button but giving ourselves permission to go all in, engage, express, and let the unfolding show us more of what's possible?

What if experiencing our highest potential doesn't come through the perfect idea or thought but through action and expression?

I've seen this myself and with many of my clients. Feeling stuck or confused isn't happening because there is a lack of clarity or we have unresolved issues inside; it's happening because we've stopped moving.

We've put the breaks on. We're waiting for something. We want more clarity, confidence, and assurance before we move. We stop moving and get consumed by more thinking, including processing and analyzing ourselves, the issue, or the situation, and it feels hard.

It seems like more info or insight is needed when instead, permission to move and express, regardless, is the key.

The mind makes it look like you need more of something first. That's the illusion.

What your heart desires is the freedom to express, to be you as you are, to say the thing, try the thing, see what's possible, and be messy.

The freedom to follow that idea, make that offering, try that new thing, or make the leap.

Expansion, new capacities, insights, and fulfillment come via action and following our inner nudges.

When we trust what is present and give ourselves permission to step forward, we discover new strengths, new skills, and the infinite creative potential we have within.

Can you let go of needing to know the answer, have the perfect script, or work out all the variables before you act?

What would freedom look like for you? What do you need to let go of to get into action?

“Feeling stuck or confused isn't happening because there is a lack of clarity or we have unresolved issues inside; it's happening because we've stopped moving.
