Embrace the Creative Adventure & Feel More Alive | Blog

If not now, when?

In the dance of life and business, we often find ourselves at a crossroads: to trust in our creative intelligence or to shy away, clinging to what feels safe.

When I was a child, we rode our bikes everywhere. To a friend’s house, school, practice, the store, etc. The distance and even the type of roads (busy or not) were irrelevant. If we had somewhere we wanted to go, it was our source for getting there.

To this day, if I get on a bike for any length of time other than the Peloton 😉, I have bodily memories of joy and freedom, and a smile emerges.

It wasn’t always smooth. A couple of times, those rides led to emergency room visits and stitches. In fact, one hill in particular resulted in two rather dramatic turns over the handlebar.

After the second time, that hill and I had some serious conversations! Actually, the hill was the hill, but every time I had to go down it, which, based on its proximity to my house, was pretty often, my head was full of thoughts.

Things like, “Oh no, don’t go too fast.” “Slow down”. “I’m not stable.” “This doesn’t feel good.” “Will I make it”? “Am I going to fall”?

I was tense and afraid and did everything possible to avoid another crash.

Of course, this makes sense and may even seem like a smart strategy based on the previous two hospital visits. However, my fear of repeating a past fall or trying to control the speed and outcome took all the joy out of those hills.

Hills became something to manage and be leary of, and I couldn’t trust myself on them.

Recently, in my business, that hill has been a metaphor for trusting where things are headed and going all in versus hesitating, trying to control all the variables, and waiting for guarantees or perfect conditions.

Can I trust the way it’s going? Can I trust the speed and pace? What if I let go of trying to manage the experience and went all in?

Perhaps what’s needed is not a strategy for avoiding pitfalls, mistakes, or uncomfortable feelings but rather the freedom to move to embrace the ride.

Over the years, in various ways, I have returned to these three powerful insights in my own business and the work I do with leaders and entrepreneurs.

When remembered, they provide:

  • The foundation for accessing new potentials.
  • Living more fully expressed & fulfilled.
  • Having more impact.

1. Trusting the Creative Intelligence Within

There is a natural creative intelligence within all of us. That power is already there; it’s innate. We don’t manufacture it. We experience it moment-to-moment based on the quality of our minds.

What comes through us, those nudges, are tailor-made for us and for whatever is on our plate.

Learning to listen for and follow those creative nudges is the path to new growth and experiences.

2. Going All In: The Transformative Power of Commitment

When we decide to go all in, we embark on a journey of transformation. What does going “all in” mean?  Engaging wholeheartedly in an open way.

This commitment means embracing the messiness of life, recognizing that our path may not always be linear, and just like riding my bike, there may be some falls.

When we approach our lives and businesses with a sense of adventure, we begin to see challenges not as things to avoid but as essential parts of our journey.

Going all in brings forth an aliveness and a connection that allows what is there to grow and expand. To have more life. It propels us beyond our comfort zones, which is often where our hopes and desires reside.

3. Bridging Trust and Action

The space between inspiration and action requires trust. Trust in ourselves, that we can handle it, that we have what it takes to find our way.

When I remember, I don’t have to place my trust in a certain outcome happening or getting it right, but rather, I can trust in my ability to find my way to rise to the occasion; no matter what happens, I give myself permission to move and take the next step.

The interplay between trust and action is vital. When we trust our creative instincts, we stop hesitating and feel the joy of engaging with our ideas versus thinking about them.

In this blend of trust and engagement, we discover our true potential. In the movement, we gain more clarity, inspiration, and fulfillment.
