A Place to Stand As the Year Opens | Blog

Where Are You Coming From – Inside Yourself?

There’s something I’m paying attention to as we step into the New Year. While I gave up resolutions years ago, I still find myself using this time to reflect and sit with possibility.

I’m spending the New Year with my good friend, Jenée, and we love connecting, listening, and exploring what life and business might have in store for us. We walk, talk, and eat good food. We ground, we reflect for one another, we laugh and tell the truth.

Oh, and we also watched the 6-part docuseries with Taylor Swift and behind-the-scenes footage of the Eros Tour. Don’t judge – if you haven’t seen it, you’re missing a masterclass in leadership, authenticity, creative expression, holding space for others to shine, and letting our work evolve as we evolve.

Ok, rant over 😊.  Don’t be surprised, though, if she shows up again in the future. While I haven’t listened to much of her music, I have been inspired by her leadership and living what is true for her.

Which brings me back to what I’m sitting with as this year opens.

As this year opens, what keeps coming forward is the question: where am I coming from – inside myself?

Not where am I going, but where am I standing as I step forward.

This year, I’m not orienting myself around outcomes or improvement. I’m orienting myself around something simpler.

I’m choosing to stand on what’s real. What’s aligned for me. What’s asking for my attention, trust, and presence.

Not what has made sense in the past. Not what once worked. Not even what I’m especially good at doing.

But what feels alive, trustworthy, and true now.

Over time, many of us become very skilled at living from what has made sense. We build from intelligence, effort, and responsibility. Often it works, and sometimes for years. And then, quietly, it stops working in the way it once did.

Not in a dramatic collapse, but in a subtle loss of traction or fulfillment. Nothing is obviously wrong, and yet something is no longer true.

That’s the place I find myself standing as this year opens, and it’s the place I see so many thoughtful, competent, creative people standing too.

Especially solopreneurs, creatives, and leaders who are out on their own, genuinely trying to build something meaningful and sustainable.

They’re doing the right things, applying what they know, showing up responsibly—and still sensing that there must be a more aligned, alive way to live and move from here.

What I know now, what I’m choosing to stand on, is this: the next chapter doesn’t come from fixing yourself, upgrading yourself, or pushing harder toward outcomes.

It comes from standing on what’s real and true for you.

From restoring aliveness as a starting point rather than a reward.

From choosing honesty and what is true for you now, instead of strategies that worked in the past or for others.

Acting from an internal center, one you fully inhabit, and allow what’s present to move through you.

This isn’t about becoming better. It’s about becoming truer. And that difference matters more than it might seem.

When we override ourselves, our bodies, our instincts, the quieter signals inside, we can remain productive for a long time. We can keep things moving, keep things afloat, keep meeting expectations.

But eventually, life asks for a different kind of intelligence. One that doesn’t rely on force or even making logical sense. One that doesn’t need to justify itself to be valid. One that feels steady rather than driven.

As this year begins, this is the internal ground I’m returning to again and again.

Listening for resonance and letting my work evolve as I evolve.

Trusting what wants to come through and letting it lead. Not waiting for external validation, assurances, or proof first.

Aliveness as the organizing principle. Not outcomes, not better versions, not fixing. If something lacks aliveness, it doesn’t get to stay, regardless of whether it makes sense.

Living from alignment rather than trying to get it right.

Knowing that embodiment and new lived experiences happen via action and being IN the world, not in my mind.

I’m less interested in strategy and more attentive to signal.

As you step into the year, this is my invitation: Find your place to stand.

Not the place you should stand. Not the place you’ve always stood.

The place that feels real now.

Everything else will come from there.

“Act from an internal center, one you fully inhabit, and allow what’s present to move through you.”
