Did You Know that Being Good at Being Insecure is a Super Power? | Video

ALL HUMANS feel insecure. Insecure feelings are common in life, business and relationships. It’s normal and really not that interesting unless we make it so.

In fact, when we look at the universal nature of thought and feeling we see that WE ALL EXPERIENCE A FULL RANGE OF THOUGHT which means WE ALL EXPERIENCE A FULL RANGE OF FEELINGS.

SEEING the common nature of this, how normal it is, begins to make our feelings and our experiences less precious or worrisome. We understand how our minds are wired to clear, to come back to neutral and to get more perspective.

Insecurity is just another form of thought and feeling on the spectrum of the human experience. Yet because we don’t like that feeling, we have a tendency to try and do something about it.

What if trying to do something about it is actually the problem?

I see this in myself and with my clients. We get worried that we’re not working hard enough; that we’re going to fail; that we may look bad in a situation or that we’re not living up to our own or other’s standards and expectations. At the bottom of all this is insecure thinking.

As a result of this thinking, we get reactive and then we respond from that reaction.

What if the key to more clarity, to accessing fresh thought, new perspective in the moment is our ability to get neutral. To actually get good at being insecure.

Things are only difficult when we’re not clear. When we are reactive, insecure or not neutral about our thinking. Getting good at being insecure means I’m okay feeling uncomfortable. I SEE my reaction for what it is and KNOW my mind will settle. And being OK with being insecure allows that to happen more gracefully.

As my friend and mentor, Aaron Turner says, we experience “More Lift; Less Drag”.

In other words, there is less between you and whatever potential you would experience without the drag of trying to trouble shoot or overcome your insecurity.

Our only “problem”, if there actually is even a problem, is that we get scared or give meaning to our insecure thoughts. We react. We try to overcome them, stomp them out, process them away or override them with positive thinking.

Yet if we UNDERSTAND that we are feeling thought in the moment and that thought is fluid, we KNOW that there is nothing to “do” about it. That actually trying to do something about it just adds more noise to the system. It disturbs our minds. It creates more drag.

However, when we understand that we are in reaction, it gives us the space to respond with more insight. We get helpful thinking in the moment.

When we allow ourselves to get good at the full range of thoughts, feelings and experiences, we see that our minds will settle, we'll get perspective. We are resilient.

Taking our insecurity more lightly, seeing it for what it is, gives us a Super Power.

We take ourselves more lightly and as a result we have more internal resources available to us. From a clearer mind, we are able to bring our best self to the situation.

Get less precious with insecurity and watch higher quality ideas and performance come through.
