Can Too Much Excitement & Enthusiasm Be A Bad Thing?

Interview with Kathleen Murphy

Kathleen Murphy, M.Ed., LADC, is the VP of Substance Abuse Services for Farnum Center, overseeing Farnum’s Outpatient Programs, Medical Detox, and Admissions. Kathleen has been providing treatment to those affected by substance use disorder since 2003. She earned her master’s degree in counseling in 2010 from the University of New Hampshire and is a Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor.

In today’s conversation, I speak with Kathleen Murphy. Kathleen was used to showing up in business with high energy, excitement, and enthusiasm. To her, this “intensity” never appeared to be a hindrance to her work, until she was able to take pause and look closer. Through understanding the principles of thought, she now sees that overexcitement is actually the result of a sped up mind, leading to mental distortion. Kathleen points to the indispensable value of neutrality as the source of clarity, fresh insight, higher efficiency, effective leadership, and genuine collaboration.
