I’m always impressed when watching the Olympics and the athletes make a mistake, they tumble, they fall and then they have to get right back up and do it again. They “shake it off” and keep going.
A few years ago, I was leading a 2-day offsite with about 50 executives. There were a lot of moving parts. I woke up with my mind spinning, my adrenaline pumped and feeling rushed. I wasn’t really conscious of my mood; my mind was focused on getting things done. As I went to the meeting room and started getting ready for the day, I noticed that a number of people sort of looked at me strangely.
What ensures more success…how present we are or how prepared we are? There’s a common theory out there that to be successful in anything you must prepare, practice, and repeat. More hours of preparation lead to more success.
